Certifcate of Merit to Tomislav Dugec 9A2AA (13/01/13)

Donations to LU6W dxpedition to Escondida Island via GDXF (12/01/13)
The GDXF (German DX Foundation) has also supported the LU6W DXpedition, which a short time ago activated the South American IOTA group SA-096 for the first time ever. The experienced crew with Cezar, VE3LYC, Johan, PA3EXX, as well as members of the Radio Club Puerto Madryn, experienced considerable difficulties on the island of Escondida.
Both a team and a boat crew member were so severely injured, that an immediate return was required for medical attention. Items already offloaded had to be immediately secured and left on the island, but were then lost to the heavy seas.
This loss of several radios, antennas, a laptop and other equipment has hit the team hard financially.
The GDXF requests anyone who wishes to help to please donate to the LU6W team. All received donations will be forwarded and a list for accountability purposes will be published. The way for the donation can be found on: www.gdxf.de
Cezar VE3LYC is a member of BRF and holder of our certificate of merit.

Looking Back at 2012
2012 was a great year for BRF, with the number of members rising from 82 to 177 at the moment and many activities stimulated and organized by our club.
We started the year with our Radio Activity Award in January 2012, in which 39 Ops, SWLs and BCLs participated.
Our special Titanic Award commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of that “unsinkable” ship was a big success: 182 hunters of the special event stations and 16 Titanic SES applied for the award. Thank you all for the very nice comments on the idea and the design of the certficate.
In May 2012 we organized our annual European Spring Award, which saw 27 participants that year and our newly created Head Quarters Award on the occasion of the IARU world championship in July aroused great interest with 86 stations applying for that award.
Our annual Lights Hunter Award in August (28 participants) and our Day of German Unity Award on October 3 (12 participants) rounded off our annual very short term awards.
In October we instituted our new permanent VK-Islands-Award, which has already been sent out to 23 hunters and one activator, the well-known Bill Horner VK4FW, holder of our Certifcate of Merit.
Our annual Islands Award has been applied for 22 times in 2012, and we hope there will be more participants in 2013.
We sent out quite a number of certificates in the ELLA award program and we even had to design a large number of new awards in this program, as two prominent lighthouse hunters, Piotr Brydak SP5PB and Bronius Sriubas LY5O joined our club and our award program. There are three hunters with more than 500 LHs confirmed in our Honor List at the moment: Piotr SP5PB is the top scorer holding 881 credits, followed by Bronius LY5O with 629 and Leo van der Horst (SWL NL 11553) with 501 valid lights confirmed.
All in all 2012 was a very active year – and a very busy one for our award manager, who sent out more than 600 awards all around the world.
BRF thanks you all for your interest and participation and we hope to hear from you in 2013 in connection with some of our activities.
Radio Activity Award 2013
The award is sponsored by BRAVE RADIO FRIENDS and can be applied for by amateur radio stations or short wave listeners.
